Pastor's Message

Thank you for visiting Church of the Apostles new website.  My name is Pastor Michael Cromer.  I have been serving as pastor of Church of the Apostles, United Church of Christ, since March 2010. In the past year we have done many new and exciting things here at Apostles. We have sponsored a variety of free concerts featuring Irish, Celtic, and folk music, bell choirs, and the Wayne Band.  Our concerts are usually preceded by a free community pot luck meal.  A number of people from the church and the community have come together to plant their own personal gardens behind the church in the free community garden spaces we offer.  Our theme of children's Vacation Bible School again will be the Green Bible School.  The focus of our three evenings will be on caring for God's creation, caring for ourselves, and teaching children to live healthy whole lives of faith. One of the most popular events at Apostles last fall was our Blessing of the Pets service.  Many people from the community brought their cats, dogs, and even a bird for a special service to bless and honor God's gift of animals in our lives.

Our worship service at Apostles is a combination of both the old and the new.  You are welcome to dress in whatever you feel comfortable wearing.  Although we honor the traditional aspects of a worship service we also include new ways of doing church. My message each week is relevant to our lives in today's modern world. Our scripture readings are sometimes taken from a traditional bible translation and sometimes from a contemporary translation written in everyday language.  Our music is also both traditional and contemporary and has included clarinet, the dulcimer, and flute. We encourage and invite people to share their gifts of music during worship. The bulletin or program for our worship service is easy to follow and understand with explanations about the various parts of the service.  No one is left wondering what to do or say or left confused about what is going on during the service. Your comfort here is important to us. During the summer months we have one outdoor service each month.

Church of the Apostles has a special focus on reaching out to the local and global community.  We contribute to the local agencies in Waynesboro that help people in need by donating food items and money.  We realize how many people are hurting right now with unemployment at the root of so many people's problems.   If we are unable to help someone we try to direct them to a place where they can find help.  We believe that it is important as follower of Jesus to reach out and help people in need. We periodically hold SERRV sales selling fair trade items from around the world and support Heifer International aid.

Church of the Apostles, United Church of Christ, is a friendly community of faith that welcomes people from all walks of life.  If it has been a long time since you attended church, or if church is new to you, you are always welcome here.  Our denomination makes no discrimination or judgment against who you are, where you have been or where you are now in the life's journey.  Everyone is welcome to be a part of our church family.

Thank you again for visiting our website.  If you would like more information about our church please do not hesitate to call me at 717-816-2940.  I look forward to hearing from you and perhaps seeing you among the congregation on Sunday morning or at one of our special events.

In God's Love,

Pastor Michael Cromer
